About the Galvanic Isolator VDI-16 A

The Victron Galvanic Isolator VDI-16 prevents electrolytic corrosion by blocking the low-voltage DC currents that enter a boat via the shore power earth wire. These stray currents can cause significant corrosion to underwater metals including the hull, propeller, shaft, and through-hull fittings. The isolator uses two anti-parallel diodes that only conduct above approximately 1.4V DC — well above the typical galvanic potential difference between dissimilar metals — effectively blocking corrosion currents while allowing normal AC fault currents to flow for safety. In a fault condition, the residual-current device (RCD/GFCI) can still operate correctly. Rated for 16A maximum continuous current. Waterproof potted construction for installation in wet or exposed marine environments. Installed in the earth wire directly behind the vessel's shore power connection.
